Recent Work - March 2012

It's a lovely, unusually warm March day. I've been wanting to document the latest studio work, so that I can study it for the next stage of progress and move it out of the house. Since today is so beautiful, I decided to work with outdoor lighting. All these pieces were photographed on a white backdrop, in the shade of my deck. The background is blue due to the color of daylight shadow, but don't let that fool you, the pieces are still showing their true colors.

All these pieces are Cone 10 reduction fired (hence why the clear glaze appears celadon and blue). They are each made with porcelain (either Babu or Nara) and coated with a Black Mountain slip that has some black oxide in it to deepen the black. The surface textures are either an oxide applied through wax resist on top of glaze, velvet underglaze applied beneath glaze, or a commercial decal.
